Breckland Ditch Dodger

Equipment

- approx 8 x 2.4m (8ft) spars
- 2 x 1.8m (6ft) spars
- 4 x 1.5m (5ft) stout pickets
- 2 x 1.2m (4ft) stout pickets
- 1 maul or sledge hammer

Method

Drive the pickets firmly into the ground in groups of 3 - 2 x 1.2m and 1 x 1.2m pickets. There should be 2 groups on each side of the ditch, at right angles to it. They should be approx, 1m (3ft) apart with the shortest stake in the centre.

Place the 1.8m (6ft) spars between the groups of pickets, resting on the centre, shorter picket.

Lay the 4m (12ft) spars across the ditch and on the 1.8m spars.

If necessary, brailing pegs can be tapped between the 4m spars to prevent them moving.
