Anchorages

An important part of main line projects are the anchorages. They quite often take the form of a conveniently placed tree, suitably protected with sacking, or the 3-2-1 anchor.

The log and picket is a very good anchorage that is easy to construct, we use it for monkey bridges etc.

The Dead Man anchor is a hefty log, approximately 2m (6ft) long. A rope is tied round the log, which is then buried in the ground. The Dead Man is not a great favourite with Camp Wardens.

There are a number of manufactured anchors available from companies catering for the off road enthusiasts - they advertise in the 4 x 4 magazines but these can be quite expensive. One good supplier is a company called Anchor Supplies (01773 570139).
